A talk about death.

So I know this is literally a little morbid. But we woke up this morning and found Nick's beta fish dead in the tank. This is Nick's first real (although small) exposure to death and what it really means to die. I wasn't quite sure how to handle things. I explained to Nick that we could see that the fish was not swimming around and that he wasn't moving any more. That meant that he had died. We needed to get rid of the body because the fish's spirit was not here anymore but in heaven. I then had him help me flush the toilet with the fish to dispose of the body. He seemed okay with this explanation, but ask me to reexplain about five times. Why did the fish have to go in the toilet? I don't know if I said or explained it well enough for him to understand, or if he can comprehend at all what death is. I hope that he will remain innocent for awhile anyway.
When I chose to have children, I really didn't think about the questions and the situations like this down the road that I would have. I forgot that it can be a little uncomfortable at times. I guess this will go down as a learning experience for mom.
On the other hand, Nick and Nate were cracking me up the other night. I had ask them to get ready for bed, and they had managed to pull off their clothes but not get their p.j.s on yet. So they were clad in very little running about the house singing at the top of their lungs, "you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I'm telling you why...Santa Clause is coming to Utah!" I sure do love my kids.

What do you want for Christmas?

The other night we took the boys to see Santa Clause at the city building. This is the first year that Nick has not been scared but very excited to see Santa. We gave him a choice of going to the movie or to go see Santa Clause. Well you see what won out. It is so fun to have a child who believes. I can hold the fact that I am going to tell Santa Clause he is being bad and he believes. I wish that I could still have that innocense and faith in my own life. I am trying to follow the example of my child.
Thanks to those who remembered my birthday and those of you who sent cards. I really do appreciate the friendship and kindness of each of you. I was able to celebrate my birthday last night, because my dear hubby has to work tonight. We went out for some prime rib, and then hit the mall and Toys for some Christmas shopping. What a zoo at Toys. However it was the only night that we will have a babysitter and be together, so we had to take advantage of the occasion.

Happy Holidays

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was very nice to have Jeff and his family and my parents in town. Nothing beats enjoying the many wonderful blessings that you have with family. While everyone was here, we went down to the Temple square lighting. I have included some pictures of that event. I am very glad that something as simple as holiday lights on a cold winter's night can remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. We can forget the stock market and our savings accounts for a few minutes and remember Christ and the light he gives the world.
While "Gampa and Gamma" were here I had them help me put up and trim the tree. Nate and Nick sure enjoyed decorating the tree, but even more showing and having Gamma's help. I am getting very excited as well. December will keep me very busy with all the birthdays, holiday parties, and of Christmas. But even more exciting to me is the fact that I will only have six weeks of pregnancy left when its all said and done. I can't tell you how happy that makes me as I am feeling "oh so pregnant."
Well I hope each of you enjoy the season. And greetings to all.
